JAMES MADISON WARHAWS BOYS AND GIRLS WIN DISTRICTS
Strong performances throughout the Warhawks' team resulted in a sweep at the Liberty District Championship meet for both the boys and girls teams Friday night, January 29. While the boys were slight favorites to win the District Championship, completing an undefeated record, the girls entered the District Championships as underdogs to the Langley High School Saxons. However, virtually every swimmer swam personal best times, and the diving was similarly spectacular, resulting in a thirty-point upset victory over the favored Langley Saxons. For next week's Regional Championships, the Warhaws will enter competitors in thirty-one or more indivual events, and send all six relay teams.
At the Liberty District Championship, first place victories were notched by Ryan Fox in the Boys dive competition, Adam Pennington in the Boys 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle events, and Bev Dobrenz in the Girls 500 Freestyle. However, the key to the Warhawks' victories was the depth and breadth of the point contribution. More than forty individuals contributed points to the Warhawks' victory -- far more contributors than fielded by any other of the Warhawks' Liberty District competition. This was truly a team victory. Well done Warhawks!
