Annual Update from Papa John Kominski
SBP DOLPHINS RETAIN “A” DIVISION STATUS; TEAM LOOKS TO RETURN MANY VETERAN SWIMMERS IN ALL AGE GROUPS; WESTLAKE VILLAGE IS A NEW FOE
For the SBP Dolphins, this is year five after returning to A Division. The team will be seeking to improve on what is now an equal number of wins and losses since the return to the strongest division in the Princemont Swim League. The task will not be easy. West Laurel has been replaced by Westlake Village (WOW), a team that went undefeated in B Division last year and won the divisional meet by 100 points. The Dolphins have competed against WOW three times in B Division, winning only the final meeting (285-256) in 2005 by sweeping the IM and relay events at the end of the meet.
The team opens the season at home against Takoma Park DC on June 19th. Other home meets are WOW on July 3rd and MVP on July 10th. That means there will be no indoor meets this year. Hooray!
Away meets are at BBT on June 25th and Theresa Banks on July 17th.
Once again SBP will host the Divisional Meet on July 24th. Hosting Divisionals means that all parents will have to be available to handle the many responsibilities that go with that honor.
Coach Terry Kominski will complete her second decade as head coach. She will be assisted again this year by Sarah Bechtol. Developmental coaches for this season are Julie Pinero, Joanna Ladas, and Laura Entwistle. “We will be tested again this summer,” said Terry. “Last year we had seeding problems because four of the ten age groups were deficient of swimmers. That should not be the case this year; there should be a balance in each age/gender group, so we will have the opportunities to be more competitive.”
