Sudley Wins 21st Consecutive Divisional Championship

July 31, 2010 -- The Sudley Swim Team broke three Prince William County Swim League records in the 15-18 division and won its 21st consecutive divisional championship -- and 80th straight meet -- at Sudley Club in Manassas. 

The PWSL Blue Division championship concluded Sudley's 11th consecutive undefeated season. Swimming under sunny, clear skies, the Seahorses had 4,505.5 points, followed by Braemar with 3,586.5 and Kingsbrooke with 3,414. 

The Seahorses had just three disqualifications in the meet -- the lowest team total in the county -- and Sudley swimmers improved their best times in 53% of the divisional races.

Casie Boyle broke the PWSL record in the Girls 15-18 100-meter individual medley with a time of 1:07.33. Carly Tanner of Lake Ridge set the previous record (1:07.71) in 2009. Casie won the freestyle (28.51) and butterfly (31.69) and was Sudley's only triple individual divisional winner. Her freestyle time was the PWSL's best time for divisional races.

The Boys 15-18 200-meter freestyle relay team of Reilly McGrory, Matthew Smith, Grant Minick and Chase Wittenauer broke the league record set the previous week by Kingsbrooke. Their time of 1:40.81 was better than the Kingsbrooke record of 1:42.43.

Chase, Grant and Reilly teamed with Michael Hughes to set the PWSL record (1:53.32) in the 200-meter medley relay. The previous mark was 1:53.66 by Kingsbrooke in 2008.

Chase indeed ended his Sudley swimming career in impressive fashion. His winning time of 32.51 in the breaststroke was the best in the county.

Melanie Sherrill, who led the team in individual points for the season, won the Girls 9-10 freestyle (36.29) and individual medley (1:31.94) and finished second in the backstroke. Melanie won 19 of her 21 individual races this season and finished second in the other two. The Sudley Girls 9-10 A medley and freestyle teams, anchored by Melanie, never lost this season.

Other double individual winners for Sudley were Morgan Kurst in Girls 11-12 freestyle (32.65) and IM (1:22.87) and Sam Pomajevich in Boys 11-12 freestyle (30.86) and butterfly (33.08). Sam's winning times were the county's best of the week.
