Records Fall in Sudley's 22nd Straight Divisional Victory

July 30, 2011 – Sam Pomajevich broke his league record in the Boys 11-12 butterfly and Sydney Craft set the team record in the Girls 8 and under freestyle to help the Sudley Swim Team win its 22nd consecutive divisional championship and conclude its 12th straight undefeated season. Sudley has won 87 consecutive meets, dating to 1999.

In the Prince William Swim League Blue Division championships at Sudley Club in Manassas, the Seahorses finished with 4,559 points, 860.5 more than Braemar and 1,351.5 more than Lake Ridge. Sudley swimmers improved their best times in 42% of the races.

Pomajevich, who led Sudley in individual points for the season, lowered his league butterfly record (30.32), set in Week 2, to 29.72. Pomajevich, who holds PWSL butterfly records in three age divisions, was the only PWSL swimmer to break a league record in 2011. He also won the individual medley (1:11.47) and freestyle (28.04) and was the only Sudley swimmer with three “cyber” (PWSL best) divisional wins. Pomajevich won 19 of his 21 individual races this season and finished second in the other two.

Seven-year-old Craft won the freestyle in a cyber-best time of 17.47, breaking the Sudley team record (17.75) set by Lauren Poli in 2001. Craft’s mother also holds a Sudley team record (Girls 15-18 freestyle relay, set in 1988).

In Boys 13-14, Henry Campbell won the butterfly (29.96), freestyle (27.17) and individual medley (1:07.31). Campbell and teammates Kenny Poague (1:08.20) and Connor Bergeron (1:09.16) had three of the top four cyber times in the Boys 13-14 IM. Campbell, Bergeron and Poague teamed with Anthony Notarantonio to win the medley (2:07.32) and freestyle (1:53.90) relays in cyber-best times.

Bergeron had two cyber-best individual wins: backstroke (31.75) and breaststroke (35.81).

In Boys 9-10, Steven Butler won the butterfly in a league-best time of 16.13. He also won the freestyle (33.81) and individual medley (1:27.25).

Casie Boyle was a double winner in Girls 15-18. She won the IM in a cyber-best 1:07.42, just .09 off the league record she set in last year’s divisional, and the freestyle (28.31).

In Girls 11-12, Cora Bardwell had two cyber-best times – individual medley (1:20.30) and butterfly (34.42) – and was second in the freestyle (32.20). Girls 11-12 teammate Jillian Fritsch won the backstroke in a PWSL-best 36.55.

Ashley Smith won the Girls 8 and under breaststroke in a cyber-best 24.22 and the backstroke in 21.31.
